Details of Deben and Ore Entrances 2009

Bookmark and Share

Just in time for the May Bank Holiday weekend, sketch plans and buoy positions for the entrances to the Rivers Deben and Ore are now available to download from www.eastcoastrivers.com

Chris Woods has been working hard on behalf of East Coast yachtsmen; he and Stephen Read, of Marine Surveys, carried out a survey of the River Ore entrance on April 1st on behalf of Trinity House. The results have now been published together with the positions of the Orford Haven buoy and the seasonal Oxley and Weir buoys. Trinity House hopes to have these buoys in their new positions in time for the May weekend.

Once in the river, the channel between North Weir Point and Oxley Marshes above the old orange beacon seems to be subject to frequent change in the same way as the entrance itself. More consistent depth can often be found on the west side.

The Deben entrance was surveyed on March 31st and I understand that the West Knoll and Mid Knoll buoys have already been re-positioned. A recent aerial photograph is available with this sketch chart.

Anyone considering entering either of these rivers would be advised to take a look at www.eastcoastrivers.com before setting out. Here you can find the very latest information on the constantly shifting shingle bars at the Deben and the Ore entrances.

2009 updates to my East Coast Rivers Cruising Companion will shortly be available; for details see the Wiley Nautical website.
